A little more about Deborah: A teacher, author, curator, judge, and appraiser, Deborah Roberts has been interested in quilts since childhood when she watched with fascination as her grandmother pieced quilts for family and friends. Her fascination grew as she was first allowed to stack the small pieces of fabric for her grandmother and later learned the basics of a quilting stitch. As she sat at her grandmother's knee the stories of earlier generations of quilt makers captivated Deborah even then. A passion ensued and as an adult Deborah began a life-long pursuit of knowledge regarding quilts and their makers. Now, this interest takes her across the globe to share this passion and her knowledge with others. Certified as an appraiser by the American Quilter's Society, Deborah specializes in the appraisal of contemporary quilts, fiberart, antique quilts, and vintage textiles - including printed fabric, hooked rugs, and woven coverlets. Offering written appraisals for insurance, fair market, and donation/estate values Deborah has extensive experience appraising for authors, corporations, museums, and private individuals on a national and international basis. As an author, Deborah has written articles for quilting magazines such as Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine and Quilt. She was also the consultant and featured writer for Lange Media’s educational video program titled, “Determining Value: The ABCs of Quilt Appraisal, released in August, 2003. Seeing the advantage of video instruction as a home learning tool, Deborah formed ‘Quilt Media’, and in October 2004 released a video DVD and CD combination program on quilt and fabric dating that she both authored and produced, “Its Not a Mystery Anymore: The ABCs of Quilt and Fabric Dating.” As part of ongoing efforts to bring quilt related education into the home, Quilt Media has several other programs currently under consideration. Having traveled extensively to study quilts and printed fabrics, Deborah's desire to share what the world offers with other's of like mind spawned "Textile Tours", a tour and travel company with trips which are planned to visit and learn about the rich textile and quilt heritage offered in the United States as well as Europe. For information on upcoming tours, go to textiletours.com. With a love that spans the time-line of quilting traditions, in addition to promoting and studying quilt history, contemporary quiltmaking, and fiberart.
