Biography of:

Deborah Roberts
Costa Mesa, CA 92626

A teacher, author, curator, judge, and appraiser, Deborah Roberts has been interested in quilts since childhood when she watched with fascination as her mother, grandmother, and aunts pieced quilts for family and friends. Her fascination grew as her childhood neighbor, a Hawaiian and also a quilter would come into her home to quilt and ‘talk quilt’ with her family.   Their stories of earlier generations of quilt makers on both the American mainland and the Hawaiian Islands captivated her even then.  Now, her childhood interest takes her throughout the country as shares her passion and knowledge with others.

As an author, Deborah has written articles for quilting magazines such as Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine and Quilt.  She was also the consultant and featured writer for Lange Media’s educational video program titled, “Determining Value: The ABCs of Quilt Appraisal, released in August, 2003.  Seeing the advantage of video instruction as a home learning tool, Deborah formed ‘Quilt Media’, and in October 2003 released a video DVD and CD combination program on quilt and fabric dating that she both authored and produced, “Its Not a Mystery Anymore: The ABCs of Quilt and Fabric Dating.”  As part of ongoing efforts to bring quilt related education into the home, Quilt Media has several other programs currently under production.

With a love that spans the time-line of quilting traditions in addition to being a contemporary quiltmaker and art quilt collector, Deborah also collects antique quilts and considers herself a full-time quilt historian.

Deborah lectures and teaches workshops in many quilt related subjects and is known for developing classes to meet the needs of a sponsoring organization.  On the national level, Deborah has taught for the American Quilter’s Society in Paducah, KY; the Pacific International Quilt Festival, and World Quilt and Textile: On Tour.
